Google responds to PayPal lawsuit on alleged stealing of trade secrets

SAN FRANCISCO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Google on Friday said it will defend itself against allegations by PayPal that the Internet search giant and two of its executives stole trade secrets to develop its mobile payment system.

PayPal's lawsuit came on Thursday, hours after Google announced its mobile payment system Google Wallet and laid out plans to bring together all parts of retail experience on smartphones.

"We respect trade secrets and will defend ourselves against these claims," said Google in a statement sent to media here.

Nato commander injured in Taliban suicide attack in Afghanistan

A Taliban suicide bomber attacked a provincial governor's compound in Takhar, killing the police chief of northern Afghanistan and seriously injuring a top Nato commander. Two other Afghan officials were also reported to have died in the attack. Several international servicemen were reported injured by eyewitnesses.

Nepal Prime Minister agrees to quit

Kathmandu: After holding an anxious nation hostage for over a day, Nepal's beleaguered Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal finally agreed Sunday to step down in exchange for the three major parties signing a deal to extend the constitutional deadline by three more months, a step that constitutional lawyers warned was illegal and would plunge the republic into further crises.

Nepal's interim constitution and parliament faced dissolution at Saturday midnight after the bickering parties failed to draft a new constitution in three years, a task started in 2008 and regarded as the foundation of the peace accord that saw the Maoist guerrillas lay down arms after a decade of insurgency.

Mullah Omar dead? Taliban denies it

Kabul/Islamabad/New Delhi: One-eyed Taliban leader Mullah Omar has been killed in Pakistan, an Afghan TV channel said Monday. The Pakistani Taliban were quick to deny this but the Indian home minister said: "Afghan authorities have disclosed that he was killed."

"Mullah Omar was killed on way from Quetta to North Waziristan," Xinhua quoted Afghanistan's TOLO television as saying. It did not provide details how he was killed and by whom.

An Afghan security official confirmed the killing, saying: "It is correct that Mullah Omar has been killed."
